Kolkata: Tension flared up in Falta, South 24 Parganas district, on Saturday as locals staged a protest. They alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers were attempting to intimidate them ahead of the vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly elections.

What Did Victims Demand?

A young man stated, "We reported yesterday that we were being intimidated and threatened here. We asked the police to arrest the accused, but 26 hours have passed, and no one has been arrested yet. We went to the police again to inform them that they are beating the children and attacking the women and girls of our households."

What are the allegations?

Another victim recounted, "When I went to cast my vote, I noticed that these individuals were stationed just 100 meters away from the polling station. They told us, 'Your vote has already been cast; go back home.' Consequently, I never got the opportunity to exercise my franchise. Apart from me, there are many others here who were similarly prevented from voting."

A young man from Falta alleged that shortly after the voting concluded, the local *Pradhan* (village head) suddenly arrived in the village accompanied by a group of people. They specifically sought out individuals who had voted for the BJP, and they are now apprehending and physically assaulting those people.

In light of this situation, the administration has deployed heavy security forces in the area. An armored vehicle belonging to the CRPF has also been stationed in Falta to effectively handle any untoward incidents. Additionally, personnel from the Rapid Action Force are continuously patrolling the region. However, despite these measures, residents continue to allege that they are being intimidated by political party workers.
